Who is Leaf Secure?

Leaf Secure, through strategic global partnerships, offer great and inexpensive money transfers around the world.

Our company also specialize in assisting South Africans with Financial Emigration, SARS Clearance and Pension exits.

The Emigration Process

  • We have a copy of the Form MP336 (b) certified by the bank for SARS.
  • We lodge the certified copy of the Form MP336b, and supporting documentation with SARS.
  • SARS issue the Emigration Tax Clearance Certificate.
  • We lodge the original Tax Clearance Certificate with the bank, together with supporting documents.
  • The bank applies to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) for an Exchange Control Approval Number (ECA), and opens a blocked account in the client’s name. If the client has an existing bank account, the bank account is changed to a blocked account upon receipt of the documents.
  • After the blocked account is open and Exchange Control Approval is received, we submit the client’s surrender document to the assurers.
  • The assurer applies for a Tax Directive from SARS and the funds are paid into the client’s blocked bank account.
  • Once all funds appear in the client’s blocked account, the relevant documents confirming emigration and Exchange Control approval are sent to the client.
  • The client signs an instruction for the bank to pay our fee and transfer the balance to the client’s destination of choice.
  • The final tax submission will be done for the client and the tax account deactivated if required.

Does Leaf Secure sub-contract services to any of third party companies?

No we don’t. In order to ensure client confidentiality and effectively manage turnaround times all services are rendered by our in-house specialist team and exclusive partnerships.

What is a "Block Account"?

Until recently the South African Reserve Bank used the term “blocked rand account” to refer to the special bank account allocated for your funds when you financially emigrate from South Africa. As of recently it is known as a Capital Account. The term ‘blocked’ does not mean that your funds are ‘frozen’ or blocked from leaving South Africa. In this instance the word “blocked” is used in the same way as you would “block” a time in your calendar – it is set aside for a special purpose – the purpose of enabling the free-flow of your money from South Africa, after you have completed the financial emigration process. A Capital account is the only vehicle through which you can smoothly and legally transfer your South African money offshore. It’s an account to which exchange control restrictions have been applied…to work in your favour.

WHAT IS A FORM IT21 (A)?

All South Africans have to submit this form to SARS, in order to formalize their emigration. It has to be accompanied by ID documents, passports, permanent residence visas and form 336 (b) among other things. It contains information on the taxpayer and all his/her family who are emigrating with him/her. Each spouse must submit their own IT21 (a) form.
